I think Amazon Lightsail is one of the best cloud computing solutions for small businesses and new projects. It's easy to use and deploy with just a few clicks.

Pros

I like how easy is to deploy virtual machine instances, containers for web apps, and the network solutions offered for cloud computing.

Cons

I think that Amazon Lightsail could offer additional virtual machines environments. Aside from that I believe Amazon Lightsail is great and is fulfilling its purpose.

Alternatives Considered

Google Cloud Storage

Reasons for Switching to Amazon Lightsail

We used Amazon services for our web app, but when I was tasked with creating a new version of the local newspaper website with WordPress, I discovered LightSail. Once set up, it created a very basic WordPress installation. Securing it and dealing with caching was also easy as all of my colleagues were already familiar with Amazon's services. Bottom line is, if you want a WordPress website and you want to run it on Amazon servers, take a look at LightSail - it works great!

Pros

The service is easier to set up for someone just starting with Amazon hosting than their other services. I loved how fast LightSail was. It increased the performance of my WordPress setup and made the pages load much faster.

Cons

It is not a beginner's thing. If you want a simple WordPress and you don't want to have to write a line of code, a shared hosting is a better option.

Deploying, managing and the pricing structure is much simpler to get compared to products like AWS ec2 and other such products.

Cons

It's quite disappointing that you have to pay to get better customer service.

My best choice for renting virtual servers

The most I like is the large variety of price planes Amazon Lightsail has.

Cons

The least I like is the SSH control for the servers is so annoying to set up with putty or any other software, also the documentation is not good for this part.

Alternatives Considered

Linode, DigitalOcean and Heroku

We needed a secure web server to run our custom application. Lightsail gave us the security we needed at a very reasonable price. It was a little complicated to set up, but it has been everything we had hoped for: fast, reliable, secure. Overall we are very pleased with the experience and would highly recommend it.

Pros

One of the key features that sold us on Lightsail was their security. Our application needs to be HIPAA compliant, and Lightsail gave us the security we needed (data is encrypted at rest, firewall, authentication, etc.).

Cons

The downside of being such a full-featured offering is that Lightsail (and all AWS services) is complex. Setting everything up the first time is a fair bit of effort, and you really have to be meticulous. The AWS documentation is fairly limited, but there is a lot of additional info available on the web because AWS is so ubiquitous.

Alternatives Considered

It's a greatly satisfying experience to have my server on AWS Lightsail

Pros

Amazon Lightsail is very simple, straight to the point, fast, full-featured and gives a 3 months period that is enough to test the service and projects. Really service my case very well.

Cons

To give someone permission to access, it's complicated. Also, to log in there is a Captcha that must be written every single time.

Alternatives Considered

Firebase, Microsoft Azure and DigitalOcean

Reasons for Switching to Amazon Lightsail

Amazon Lightsail is better in latency, good pricing plan with enough free trial period and can limit the cost.

It is extremly easy to get up and running with AWS Lightsail. New servers are deployed within minutes. Easy access and easy network configuration if you have multiple server.

I'm very happy with it and have six users on their own servers. Two of the servers are for web sites and web applications while the others are for Quickbooks. They all work well.

Pros

Lightsail is a great self-service system to initiate cloud servers quickly and easily. The admin console and the underlying tools are great.

Cons

The first time I used it I was a little confused by the CPU time sharing and how that would impact my users.

I am sooo happy that I found lightsail. I use AWS in general, but I find the UI and finding what you need a nightmare especially as you add services, but with Lightsail it is super easy. Although its more limited it has most of what I need

Pros
