I used Confluence for several years on-prem, now that the Atlassian have discontinued support for on-prem its time to find an alternative that is secure. Atlassian cloud has far too many data breaches to trust them to host trade secrets and other confidentual data.

Pros

Concurrent users collaborating on the same article at the same time.

Cons

Poor customer service (ignored)
Too many security vulnerabilities to have internet-facing
Atlassian discontinued on-prem offering to push more expencive cloud hosted option.
Inverse economy of scale, pricing increases as teams grow.

All in all Confluence is a stable and well packaged product. the Integrations with other Atlassian products makes Confluence make more sense. If you do however have other Tracking Software (Monday, Clickup etc.) - The use of Confluence might not be the best fit.

Pros

Confluence is easy to use and fast to setup.
The page builders work well and relatively rich sites can be built using it

Cons

The interoperability with external plugins is sometimes lacking. The pages (although easy to use) are not always as feature rich.
The Confluence platform does need an overhaul to make it more modern

Positive, the documentation is presented well, we can control individual pages access as required and it matches our branding.

Pros

I really like it's power and flexibility. It's very customisable and there is a large number of components available to customise the look and functionality of your documentation.

Cons

It has a bit of a steeper barrier to entry than some competitors, because it has so much functionality it can be a bit overwhelming at first.

It is essential to my daily job and is a great tool to facilitate knowledge sharing and keeping records.

Pros

It is very easy to use and is great for knowledge sharing and keeping records. It is similar to an internal company Wikipedia. Collaboration with team mates is super easy and the history feature is amazing for comparisons.

Cons

Sometimes loading times can take a bit. There isn't much else as the product does what it's expected to.

I've been a user and administrator of confluence for 15 years. I've scaled it up from 200 users in a department to over 25000 users across an entire organisation.

Pros

Confluence is a well established, feature rich, easy to use and highly scalable collaboration tool. It makes writing and sharing documentation very easy. There is a vast library of (mostly paid for) plugins that can customise the experience.

Cons

It's expensive and the plug in system ramps up the cost considerably as well. Plugins have a habit of launching for free but after some time they start charging.
(usually shortly after you realise it's indispensable). They make it hard to remove and replace plugins.
Th search facility is not configurable and heavily weights results to more recent documents.

great go do business tool and used industry wide, has issues such as very slow support and lack of features which can be expanded with costly plugins

Pros

the ability to control used access is great and to manage different spaces for different situations. we have also been able to use confluence to drive content on hosted web sites driven from confluence spaces with the help of plugins

Cons

plugins are costly, and to make full use you need to use them. These seems to be charged based on how many users you have in confluence rather than how many who would use the plugin. this makes it expansive and there is no way of restricting a plugin to a user group

My experience with Confluence was positive overall. I used it on my every project and it’s great for organizing and sharing knowledge, but it requires good structure and team discipline to avoid clutter.

Pros

Confluence makes it easy to organize, share, and find information. It’s a perfect place for our company projects knowledge base.

Cons

It can feel overwhelming at times, especially with too many pages or unclear organization. Also, some features can be tricky to use without proper training.

Unlock Seamless Collaboration with Confluence

Reviewed on 25/04/2024

Pros

Confluence makes it really easy to write stuff down and work together. You can share all kinds of information like plans, ideas, and technical stuff with your team or even with people outside your team. It's super simple to use and looks really clean. It's made for teams, so everyone can work together in one place, no matter where they are or what time it is.

You can do lots of different things with it, like keeping track of different versions of your work and making cool diagrams. The writing part is easy too, and you can add pictures, tables, and other stuff to your pages. It's like having a big blank page where everyone can add their ideas.

There are also templates you can use to start your work without starting from scratch every time. You can organize all your stuff in different spaces, so it's easy to find what you need. And because everything is in one place, it's really convenient.

When you share your work, lots of people can work on it at the same time. You can give feedback right away and get notifications when someone talks about you or your work. Overall, Confluence is a great tool for teams to work together and share ideas.

Cons

The Pricing is on the expensive side . It can also get difficult to customize . It can also crash sometimes .

Overall, my experience with Confluence has been positive. It’s a solid tool for collaboration, bringing everyone onto the same page and making it easier to track projects, share ideas, and store resources. I appreciate how it centralizes information, reducing the back-and-forth of emails. However, there are some challenges with keeping content organized, especially as the workspace grows. A bit of planning is needed to make sure pages don’t get too cluttered or hard to navigate. With good organization practices, though, Confluence can be a powerful asset for team productivity.

Pros

Confluence is great because it brings everyone’s ideas and information into one organized space. I like how it feels like a virtual team hub where you can brainstorm, track projects, and access resources easily. Plus, it's simple to navigate and keeps things from getting lost in endless email chains!

Cons

The search function could definitely be more intuitive to help navigate large workspaces.

It is a great software for collaborating with your team and sharing information about projects or what have you. The project management the knowledge management are top tier. It can also be used for marketing which I haven't looked into too much yet, but it does look like it has potential to be effective. In any case, you wouldn't be disappointed using Confluence.

Pros

Confluence has so much great information for project managers right at their fingertips. It helps plan and coordinate your schedule. It also has AI integrated into it which can be so helpful when you are at a crossroads. Templates are simple yet effective.

Cons

The only thing I will say is that since this software is not as big as other major websites and information sources, it can have a lack of information, as well as having outdated sites and sources. However, this is not true of all information available.

I use Confluence almost every day and have explored many aspects of it. I wish I had known about it when I was a university student, since it's much more useful than OneNote in my opinion.

Pros

It is very customizable and has many integrations, but the basics of word processing are very quick and easy to use right away. Confluence is evidently on par with its competitors from the moment you start using it, and only gets more impressive the deeper you learn about it.

Cons

The 3rd party integrations are not always well-vetted. It would be nice to have the more popular ones built-in and supported as core features which can be enabled. It's also frustrating to have several markdown languages active within Atlassian products in different areas.
