Mailchimp
About Mailchimp
Mailchimp is a marketing automation platform that allows you to create, send, and analyze email and ad campaigns. The software offers complete campaign transparency, email tracking, view success and click-through rates, custom reports, and the ability to manage subscribers and un-subscribers. Mailchimp lets you create custom templates and at the same time choose from an array of pre-made templates and campaigns.
Mailchimp is also available as freemium solution - you can send up to 12,000 emails to 2,000 subscribers each month without any financial commitment. Most of the features, including access to marketing automation workflows as well as the ability to create ad campaigns, are available to free users. The Mailchimp mobile application gives you the power to create and send campaigns, manage subscribers, keep tabs on your account activity, and more.
Choose from numerous integrations and web services to streamline your workflow, sync customer data, generate more revenue, and grow your business. Connect your online store to Mailchimp to capture order information, create targeted campaigns, automate product follow-ups, and send personalized order notifications. Mailchimp provides support via an online knowledge base and technical support via email and live chats to help users with any questions that may come up along the way.

Solid program, but cost and introduction of subscription pricing made it unviable for us

We still have a positive perception of Mailchimp. It served us well over a long period and was low-stress and reasonably priced. However, as they changed direction with the software (and pricing) it no longer became appropriate for email newsletters only. There is probably tremendous value for those who want to take advantage of segments and the more CRM like features!
Pros
Mailchimp is incredibly solid, the UI is familiar to many staff (so learning curve was slight), and they seemed to maintain high quality sending ip integrity (so open rates remained high). Other competitors we have tested over the years seemed more flexible with their sending quality, so we noticed sharp open-rate drops (even after warming up the list).
Campaigns were easy to setup and it was relatively easy to set up attractive emails (or pull in templates from elsewhere). Reporting made sense, and it was useful to be able to track client engagement over time.
Cons
We were very committed to Mailchimp over a long period (10+ years) but primarily for email newsletters. As the software developed, they continued to introduce more and more features, but in some ways this just complicated things for us. We used Mailchimp for infrequent mailouts to large mailing lists, and this worked well when they allowed you to buy adhoc credits. However, when they introduced subscription pricing only (arguably fair enough given all their new features) it made it entirely unviable to continue.
Reasons for Choosing Mailchimp
We switched because it was a much more robust solution, and easier to delegate email newsletters to staff (who don't necessarily have the tech background). Since Mailchimp we switched to Amazon SES with a front-end.Reasons for Switching to Mailchimp
At the point we made the switch, Mailchimp represented the ideal value between value for money and ease of use (Amazon SES in particular had a much higher tech curve than we had the capability to deal with initially)- Industry: Medical Devices

Pros
Mailchimp's pretty easy to use, even for someone who's not a tech whizz. There are heaps of templates to choose from, and you can customize them to your heart's content. I use the segmentation features a lot to make sure I'm sending the right messages to the right people.
Cons
But Mailchimp's got a few weaknesses, too. The automation features aren't as flash as some of the other options out there.

Good mailer app, works really well for some clients but not others.
Over all really like these guys as a company.
Pros
It's good a really fun brand, and rich feature set built by developers that clearly had a vision for their products.
For small businesses it does a lot of things so you don't have to worry about third party tools, but has a boat load of support for integration and tool support as your company scales/for larger orgs.
Cons
Mailchimp has the same problem a lot of larger software services have run into.
Their user base the server demand sometimes runs into performance swings. And their product stays mostly the same to keep old customers happy.

Overall the pricing was good especially for having a smaller list and is a great provider for new brands.
Pros
I liked Mailchimp's UI better, and their app was amazing for sending email campaigns on the go. Since they no longer integrate directly with Shopify, I started using Klaviyo, but they don't have a mobile app and their UI is not as good.
Cons
Since I am unable to link my Shopify account directly to Mailchimp, I switched to Klaviyo.
